Danya Expands Talent Pool with Addition of Five
Senior Executives and Promotion of Long-Time Employee
Fostering Healthy, Productive Work Environment is Corporate Philosophy

SILVER SPRING, MD. (June 1, 2005) — Danya International, Inc., a health communications and technology firm delivering breakthrough solutions for public health and education, announced today its appointment of five industry specialists with extensive expertise in information technology, research and development, social services, health communications, and tobacco control. The company also promoted its Director of Human Resources, who has been with Danya for nearly 6 years, to Vice President.

As Vice President of Information Technology Services and Solutions, Daniel Pohl has an extensive background in information systems and manages all aspects of technology operations for Danya, including design and construction and strategic planning for future growth of the company. Mr. Pohl is also responsible for overseeing the information technology projects Danya delivers to its diverse pool of clientele. Prior to Danya, Mr. Pohl was President and Chief Technology Officer of WebPhotos.com in Gaithersburg, Maryland, where he was in charge of developing strategic alliances, directing worldwide expansion, and raising venture and private financing. A graduate of Tulane University in New Orleans with a bachelor’s of science degree in psychology, Mr. Pohl began his career at Lotus Development Corporation, later moving to IBM Corporation and Zero-G, Inc.

Dr. Henry Y. H. Wong joins Danya as Director of Public Health Research. Among his responsibilities are overseeing various health research efforts and serving as Principal Investigator on a number of youth-oriented alcohol and drug abuse projects, as well as a range of projects focusing on HIV prevention and other public health issues. Previously Dr. Wong was Program Manager of the Health Information and Research Group at Northrop Grumman IT, Civilian Health Solutions, in Rockville, Maryland, and Director of Research and Evaluation Services and Managing Vice President with Systems Assessment & Research, Inc. A published author and frequent conference speaker, Dr. Wong has served as a Research Fellow at the University of Maryland and as Senior Technical Advisor to the Ministry of Planning in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. As a student he held several positions with the University of Pittsburgh, while simultaneously earning two master’s degrees in sociology and public administration and a Ph.D. in applied sociology.

Director of Operations for Head Start and Conference & Meeting Planning Frances Lorenzi comes to Danya from the House of Mercy, Inc., in Baltimore, Maryland, where she served as Executive Director. A bilingual social services executive, Ms. Lorenzi has 25 years of experience that focuses on educational services for disadvantaged youth in multicultural environments. She has designed and managed innovative education and development programs for high-risk youth in 15 communities nationally, including New York City, Washington, D.C., and the city of Baltimore. Prior to House of Mercy, she was Senior Program Director for the Enterprise Foundation in Columbia, Maryland, and held senior positions with Washington, D.C.-based Associates for Renewal in Education, Inc., and Koba Associates. She began her career at the Fordham-Tremont Community Mental Health Center in Bronx, New York. Ms. Lorenzi holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology and political science from New York University and a master’s in clinical psychology from Columbia University.

Michelle Bonds, a media relations and health communications professional, joins Danya’s Atlanta operations as Director of Public Health Communication from the National Center for Primary Care (NCPC). At NCPC, Ms. Bonds served as Executive Assistant to the Director, former U.S. Surgeon General Dr. David Satcher, and was responsible for program management. Prior to NCPC, she spent 13 years in various positions with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), including Supervisory Health Communication Specialist. Ms. Bonds graduated from the University of Texas with a bachelor’s of arts degree in journalism and business administration. She began her career with CBS affiliate KDBC-TV in El Paso, Texas, as News Assignment Editor and Weekend Producer.

With more than 20 years of experience in the tobacco control field, Phillip Wilbur comes to Danya as Director of Tobacco Control and Health Programs as a health policy and media consultant. His clients have included CDC, National Cancer Institute, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, American Cancer Society, Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, and several other state tobacco control programs and government contractors. Previously Mr. Wilbur worked for the American Heart Association as State Tobacco Policy Director; ROW Sciences, Inc., as Project Director; Pacific Institute for Research and Evaluation as Manager of Special Projects; and the Advocacy Institute. While at the Advocacy Institute, where he spent 10 years managing the organization’s tobacco control projects, Mr. Wilbur developed its training programs and helped launch SCARCNet, the very first interactive tobacco control computer bulletin board ever. A University of Kansas graduate with a bachelor of arts in political science and communication, he received his master’s degree in political communication from the University of Maryland. A published author of several scientific journals and related guidebooks, Mr. Wilbur began his career at New Sounds, Inc., in New York City.

As a Human Resources (HR) professional, Zewud Debebe has 14 years of experience creating, implementing, managing, and analyzing HR systems. She joined Danya in its infancy as Director of Human Resources, and her dedication to corporate ideals has earned her a promotion to Vice President. She was instrumental in building the company’s HR infrastructure and has since expanded core programs and introduced new initiatives that have enhanced the work environment and minimized employee turnover. Prior to Danya, Ms. Debebe worked in HR with organizations in the Washington Metropolitan area, including Gannett Co., Koba Associates, and the National Rifle Association. She earned a bachelor’s of arts degree in economics and a master‘s of arts in general administration/Human Resources from the University of Maryland.
