CDC Taps Danya to Open State-of-the-Art
NPIN Communications Center to Bolster Mission of
Preventing HIV, STD, and TB Worldwide
Danya’s NPIN Team Possess Wealth of Expertise in Public Health Services

SILVER SPRING, MD. (May 1, 2005) — Danya International, Inc., a health communications and technology firm delivering breakthrough solutions for public health and education, announced today that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) vision has been realized with the opening of the National Prevention Information Network (NPIN) near the CDC headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia. NPIN serves as the centerpiece in the CDC’s ongoing prevention effort to provide advanced communications tools that facilitate education dissemination, training opportunities, and strategic partnerships.

Leading up to the Service Center’s formal opening celebration, Janet Collins, Ph.D., Acting Director of the National Center for HIV, STD and TB Prevention of the CDC, said, “The NPIN Service Center is going to prove critical in matching people to the information they need to make good decisions about the programs they are designing.” The NPIN facility is designed to provide superior health communications and information services in support of CDC initiatives.

“Since CDC awarded the 5-year contract to Danya in May 2004, we have tapped the best and brightest people, technologies, and resources to outfit NPIN with breakthrough solutions,” said Jeffrey Hoffman, Ph.D., President and CEO of Danya. “Within a short time, we have delivered CDC a premier Service Center that far exceeds expectations. The cutting-edge technology showcased throughout the facility will make the job of developing and disseminating prevention information far more efficient and effective."

Danya assembled a team of top-notch health contractors to provide a full-service solution that meets the operational, technical, scientific, managerial, and communications needs of the CDC and its National Center for HIV, STD, and TB Prevention, which oversees and funds the NPIN facilities. This team includes:

  • Aspen Systems
  • American Social Health Association
  • Booz Allen Hamilton
  • Diversified Business Consulting Group, Inc.

Additionally, Danya identified expansion partners for further enhancing NPIN’s full range of health communications and dissemination capabilities:

  • MayaTech Corporation
  • ORC/Macro
  • AED

Encompassing over 5,000 square feet, the NPIN Service Center includes a training center, the latest in videoconferencing and related communications equipment for conferences and focus group testing, and a centralized Resource Center of educational and prevention materials featuring free publications. The Resource Center is home to a physical archive of more than 20,000 records of HIV, STD, and TB educational materials; some HIV materials date back to 1985. In addition, NPIN offers publicly accessible databases through the revitalized Web site, an information source for private and government funding opportunities, and a reference and referral service.

Heading up the Atlanta team are Melissa P. Beaupierre, NPIN Project Director, and Michelle E. Bonds, Director of Public Health Communication. Ms. Beaupierre joined Danya in July 2004 to manage NPIN and to oversee fulfillment of task orders for various health communications services. Prior to Danya, she served as Prevention Director for the Florida Department of Health, where she was responsible for the Prevention Section of the Bureau of HIV/AIDS. Previously Ms. Beaupierre held various positions in the public health industry in Florida. She graduated from the University of South Florida with a bachelor’s of science degree in health education and a master of public health in health policy and management.

A media relations and health communications professional, Ms. Bonds recently joined Danya’s Atlanta operations from the National Center for Primary Care (NCPC) where she was Executive Assistant to the Director, former U.S. Surgeon General Dr. David Satcher, and responsible for program management. Prior to NCPC, she spent 13 years in various positions with CDC. Ms. Bonds graduated from the University of Texas with a bachelor’s of arts degree in journalism and business administration.
