Danya International and Team Awarded $45 Million Procurement to Revitalize CDC's National Prevention Information Network

Silver Spring, MD (July 28, 2004) — A team headed by Danya International, Inc. (Danya), has been selected by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to operate the CDC National Prevention Information Network (NPIN), a multi-channel resource that provides access to information on HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted diseases, tuberculosis, and other preventable diseases and conditions. The Danya team, which was awarded a 5-year contract, will supply state-of-the-art health communications and information services to support CDC.

Core members of the Danya team include:

  • Aspen Systems Corporation, Rockville, Maryland, which managed the precursor to NPIN (the National AIDS Clearinghouse) for CDC for 11 years and will provide systems hosting and distribution services under the new contract
  • The American Social Health Association, Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, which manages CDC's National STD and AIDS hotlines and will manage the NPIN contact center
  • Booz Allen Hamilton, McLean, Virginia, a leading consulting firm with extensive CDC experience, including providing technical assistance and programmatic support to the Division of HIV/AIDS Prevention
  • Diversified Business (DB) Consulting Group, Inc., Silver Spring, Maryland, a certified 8(a), Hub Zone consulting firm with an extensive background in global AIDS and chronic disease prevention and health promotion initiatives

The Danya team assumed operational responsibilities for NPIN on July 12. Other transitional activities, which will involve refocusing and redirecting NPIN information services and support, will result in a revitalized, state-of-the-art NPIN that leverages technology to effectively disseminate prevention information and exchange knowledge. This work will include a redesign of the NPIN Web site, enhancement of NPIN databases, and increased outreach to user audiences.

"Despite the great strides that CDC has made in preventing disease and saving lives, the need for prevention remains great," observes Jeffrey A. Hoffman, President and CEO of Danya. "We are honored to have the opportunity to help make NPIN the hub of a vital information network that plays a core role in CDC's dissemination of prevention information and knowledge - and we are committed to help CDC reach their prevention goals for HIV, STDs and TB."
