The Last Drag is Golden -
Danya Video Recognized with CINDY Award
SILVER SPRING, MD. (May 20, 2001) – Danya International, Inc. (Danya), is pleased to announce that The Last Drag, Danya's teen smoking cessation video, has received the Gold International CINDY Award in the kindergarten-through-grade-12 educational video category.
The Last Drag, which won first place in its category, is the story of two teenagers, 17-year-old Chris and 15-year-old Mara, who overcome smoking by following the example and guidance of peers who have already quit smoking successfully. The video follows Chris and Mara as they face and overcome such common obstacles as withdrawal and relapse.
The Last Drag is an integral component of the ASCENT (Adolescent Smoking Cessation Escaping Nicotine and Tobacco) curriculum, which was developed by Danya for use in schools. The ASCENT curriculum provides students with information about the dangers of smoking and gives them the support and motivation necessary to quit successfully.
Started as an industrial film competition in 1959, the CINDYs (Cinema in Industry) are awarded biannually by the International Association of Audio Visual Communicators (IAAVC), a nonprofit, worldwide organization representing professionals in the theatrical, broadcast, non-broadcast, and interactive media fields. This premier international audiovisual competition draws more than 2,300 entries from 17 countries. Entries compete in such categories as film, video, audio, multi-image, and interactive multimedia.
In addition to the CINDY, The Last Drag also received the International Television Association Washington, DC, Chapter's (ITVA-DC's) Peer Award in 2001.
