Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) about ACC and the Evaluation

1. What is Danya International, Inc.?
Danya is a health communications company in Silver Spring, Maryland. We specialize in creating innovative, research-based products on a variety of topics. You can learn more about the company by visiting www.danya.com.

2. How long is the video?
Each of the videos in the ACC series is approximately 15 minutes.

3. How long will the intervention be in the classroom?
The intervention (much like an in-service presentation) is designed to fit into one class period (approximately 45 minutes).

4. What if we would like more copies of the video?
If you are selected to participate in the evaluation, you will get to keep the ACC video and other materials. After the study concludes, you will be able to purchase additional copies of the video and facilitator’s guide directly from Danya.

5. Who conducts the intervention?
Typically, the person who conducts the intervention is the parent, teacher, or an advocate, such as a staff person from a local ASA chapter or other support agency. In each individual case, we will work with the parent or teacher of an eligible child with ASD to determine the best person to conduct the intervention.

6. How do we conduct the intervention?
Detailed instructions for the intervention presentation will be provided to presenters. We will also provide any technical assistance that you need.

8. Who is funding this project?
The development and evaluation of ACC is being funded by an SBIR grant from the National Institute of Mental Health.

9. How do you expect to use the data collected?
The data that are collected will be used to evaluate the effectiveness of the ACC intervention. The results of this study may be submitted for publication in a journal or presentation at a conference, but no confidential information on any child or family will be included.

10. How will Danya protect the privacy of participants?
All identifying information of the families who participate in this study will be kept confidential by Danya staff; all of the data will be labeled using numbers, not names. Also, all of the data will be kept in a secure, locked area, and any citation of the study in the research literature will never address subjects by name. Danya has extensive experience conducting federally funded research projects and strictly complies with all ethical and legal requirements that bind the use of this data and the protection of participants’ privacy.

11. How do my family, school, or local advocacy organization benefit from participating in the evaluation?

  • Participating families and teachers will receive monetary compensation.
  • Presenters will receive and be allowed to keep the video package.
  • If conducted through your local advocacy organization, that organization will receive monetary compensation for the presentation.
  • Your family and the entire autism community will benefit from the results of this study, and will help determine the effectiveness of the ACC intervention packages.
