Danya Awarded Grant from National Institute of Mental Health

Supporting Teens with Autism on Relationships

Silver Spring, Maryland (August 11, 2010) – Danya International, Inc. (Danya), a communications, research, and technology company, has been awarded a 3-year grant from the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), titled "Supporting Teens with Autism on Relationships" (STAR).

With this grant, Danya will continue development and evaluation of the STAR program, which is an innovative, skill-building resource that adapts empirically based sexuality education approaches and interventions for parents of children and teens ages 10–18 who have high functioning autism (HFA) or Asperger syndrome (AS). This program is designed to be flexible for implementation by a facilitator in a support group/workshop format or completed by parents on a self-guided basis. A key component with either approach is a series of interactive DVDs for teens with HFA or AS to use on their own to engage and educate them on relationship skills and dating.
