Danya Supports ACDI/VOCA in Fight Against Hunger and Poverty in Eastern and Southern Africa as Part of the Support for Food Security Activities IQC
Silver Spring, Maryland (September 30, 2010) – Danya International, Inc. (Danya), will support the USAID Support for Food Security Activities (SFSA) Indefinite Quantity Contract (IQC), as subcontractor of the successful ACDI/VOCA Team.
The goal of the project is to reduce hunger and improve nutrition in Eastern and Southern Africa. The 5-year “Support for Food Security Activities” (SFSA) contract, which has a $500 million ceiling, represents a significant new source of funding for agricultural development and food security programs in countries of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), as well as Tanzania.
It also represents a new USAID approach to harmonize regional hunger- and poverty-fighting efforts in these countries, where significant portions of populations face chronic food insecurity and the production of staple crops fails to meet local and regional demand.
Activities and programs implemented through the contract will support the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) framework and efforts of key African institutions to increase investments in agriculture and promote regional trade and integration. ACDI/VOCA will place a strong emphasis on partnering with private and public African organizations.
For the project, Danya will provide behavior change communications, innovative technologies, and real-time monitoring and evaluation support services. The behavior change communications will focus on nutrition education, dissemination of agricultural information and awareness of agricultural issues, and educating vulnerable groups about markets and economic opportunities. Danya’s innovative technologies to support SFSA may include mobile phone applications, Web sites, interactive databases, e-learning, online collaborative portals, dashboards, and other interactive multimedia. The real-time monitoring and evaluation system enables the integration and presentation of leading project and outcome indicators. This integration will allow program staff to adaptively manage project resources to ensure maximum effectiveness, while remaining focused on the end result of improving outcomes.
