Danya Supports Development of a Communications Strategy for ACTESA

Silver Spring, Maryland (November 22, 2010) - With funding from USAID-East Africa, Danya provided technical support to the Market Linkages Initiative (MLI), which is a regional program to promote growth in food staples and food security. Working alongside partners such as the Alliance for Commodity Trade in Eastern and Southern Africa (ACTESA), MLI seeks to identify and overcome key bottlenecks that limit market linkages between smallholder producers (vulnerable but viable farmers) and increase commercial integration of smallholder staple commodities into national and regional markets to promote growth in food staples and food security. As a part of MLI's support to ACTESA, it provided a grant to Danya to develop a communication strategy that will enhance ACTESA’s use of communications to increase and expand its impact across the Common Market for East and Southern Africa (COMESA) member states. To develop the ACTESA communication strategy, Danya conducted a desk review of ACTESA foundational documents, and a communication situational analysis with ACTESA staff and key stakeholders. With this information, based on proven best practices in organizational communication, Danya was able to draft a communication strategy for the organization, which was accepted.
