Danya to Sponsor ATOD Section Program

Silver Spring, Maryland (November 6, 2009)—Danya International, Inc. (Danya), a communications, research, and technology firm, is exhibiting at the American Public Health Association (APHA) 137th Annual Meeting and Exposition in Philadelphia, PA. The APHA Annual Meeting runs November 7–11, with a focus on pressing public health concerns and emerging science and technology designed to prevent and promote public health. As the largest and longest-running public health convention, APHA’s Annual Meeting is the premier conference for public health professionals. More than 13,000 participants, 1,000 scientific sessions, and 700 exhibitors are scheduled to attend. This year’s theme is “Water and Public Health,” emphasizing the abuse of water and the importance it plays in the health of individuals around the world.

As an exhibitor at the conference, Danya is showcasing its innovative health products and Web sites, including the International Drug, Alcohol, and Tobacco (IDAT) community network site. The IDAT site is dedicated to advancing drug, alcohol, and tobacco abuse research around the world by harmonizing the work of key global research partners and institutions, effectively managing and disseminating information, and providing research capacity and technological tools to advance the exchange of ideas and generate collaborative research.Funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) International Program, the site is a hub that collects the latest research news from key leading organizations and researchers, provides online training, has multiple funding and resources databases, and supports networking tools to facilitate collaborative work. Included is a toolkit that contains such things as international drug, alcohol, and tobacco abuse survey data and measures, clinical trials information, and statistical training. An online, peer-reviewed journal is now available on this site where original research can be submitted for publication. At Danya’s exhibit booth, researchers Rachel Gross, Ph.D., and Jessica Tercha will be conducting usability testing of the site, as well as demonstrating it to interested parties.

Danya is also proud to sponsor the Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drug (ATOD) Section during the APHA conference. ATOD, a new section within APHA, is conducting several sessions during the conference, largely speaking to the prevalence of drugs and alcohol use by adolescents and college students, as well as smoking and cessation among different demographics.
